Installation

1. Unzip the downloaded file
2. Upload the entire “Deadwood″ folder to your “/wp-content/themes/” folder
3. Log in into your WordPress control panel
4. Click the Presentation tab
5. Select the “Deadwood” screenshot

CONFIGURATION

1. GETTING STARTED: To get Deadwood off and running, you will need a minimum of 5 categories to populate the homepage. The main section on this page is the latest article posted in all categories. The top right section shows the next three latest posts. The section below the main section shows the previous five entry excerpts, offset by four. The bottom five section pulls the latest posts in categories 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. You will want to change these category number id’s to the categories you want to display, which is detailed below.
2. YOUR CATEGORIES: In the “home.php” you will find a series of query_posts functions which refer to specific category ID numbers from my database.
You will need to change the category numbers to reflect the ID numbers of the categories that you want to display on your homepage. Category numbers can be found in your control panel under Manage->Categories. There are a total of 5 spots in the home.php file to change to reflect the post categories that you want to display on the main page.
3. YOUR PHOTOS: If you want your website to resemble that of the Deadwood theme demo site, you will need one small photo for each blog post. Small photos should be cropped to 150px wide by 100px tall. Upload the image to the web and copy the URL to the photo. Within Wordpress’ Write Post page, scroll down towards the bottom and click on the Custom Fields section. Add a key called “small_photo” and then paste the link to the small photo into the key value field. View a screenshot of the custom fields used for Deadwood. Make sure your custom field values and keys match those in the screen shot above (but change the key value to the exact url to your images.) Custom fields are one of the most overlooked, yet powerful, tools in Wordpress. Read more about using custom fields. Photos posted within each entry’s post body should not exceed 350px wide, otherwise, you will make your homepage layout look icky.
4. YOUR AUTHORS PAGE: Berlin comes packaged with an author archive (authors.php), which will display some author specific info pulled from the Users page in your Wordpress installation. In order for the author’s image to show up, you’ll need to place a jpg of the author titled by the author’s last name in the wp-content/themes/deadwood/images/authors/ folder. For instance, mine is Allender.jpg, sized at 75px X 75px. Here is an example author page.
5. STYLES.CSS: Unlike most Wordpress themes which plug all the css in one file called styles.css, Berlin utilizes the Blueprint CSS framework to help separate positioning, typography, forms and what I’ll refer to as custom or Deadwood specific styles. To edit all custom Deadwood specific styles, you’ll need to edit the style.css file located in your wp/wp-content/themes/gridline/ directory.
6. BEST PRACTICES: It is best to keep your excerpt to one a one line description overview of your post. Having too much written in the excerpt field can bloat the homepage with text.

Timezone selection NEW
This new feature allows your users to select their timezone settings so that content can be automatically be corrected to show the correct time for their location in the world.

Polls
Users can create polls for other users to vote on.

Groups
Users can create groups which are categorized for easy browsing. Group owners can specify whether to automatically/manually approve new members, display the group to non-members.
Groups have their own messaging area.

Events
Users can list events which are also categorized for easy browsing. Events will display common details as well as a full description box for the creator to list any details they feel appropriate. Users attending the event will also be displayed.

Blogs
Users can write to their personal blogs. They can also subscribe to other users blogs if they are regular reader. This makes it a lot easier for the reader as they will be notified via email of new blog entries. Users can also comment on blog entries.

Guestbook
Your users can sign one another's guestbook. This is a great way for your users to make friends while browsing users profiles.

Messages
Your users can send messages to one another (if not blocked). Admin can specify how many messages a day can be sent and whether or not to allow these users to view their sent messages. Notifications from admin(s) can also be managed/read from its own section of the my messages.

Music/Video Uploads
Your users can also upload music and videos to your website. You can manage the categories from the admin panel and also specify whether you want these uploads to be automatically approved for viewing or you would rather approve them yourself. Admin can also set how many uploads users can upload.

Pictures
Your users can upload pictures to their profile page. Other users will be able to view them and if they wish, comment on them too. The picture owner can specify whether they want comments automatically approved or not. Admin can specify how many pictures users can upload and whether or not to automatically approve them.

Picture Albums NEW
Your users will now be able to manage their pictures by placing them into albums, making it easier for your users to organise and visitors to view.

Buddies
The buddies section allows users to add other users to their friends list. The users buddies will also be displayed on their profile page. Admin can also specify how many buddies a user can add.

Buddy Request NEW
As of version 3.1.2, users will need to request to be another users buddy/friend. Only if the recipient approves will they be listed in each others buddies list. Users can set to not receive buddy requests via their settings.

Favourites
Favourites allows your users to keep a private list of other users. Their favourites will not be displayed anywhere other than their favourites section when logged in.

Blocked List
Users can add other users to their blocked list. Adding a user to your block list will stop that user from sending you messages, rating you and commenting on any of your uploads/profile.

Ratings
Users can rate one another (if not on blocked list). Users can also use the rating spy to see who has rated them and if they want to do some traveling, visit their rating history to see who they have rated in the past. Admin can specify which users can view rating spy and rating history.

Invite
Your users can send invites to their friends so they can be invited to join your website too. Senders will be able to manage the invites they have sent and also see whether their friend has signed up to your website or not.

Visitors
If given the permission to by admin, users can view who has been checking out their profile page.

Customize Profile
If set to by admin, your users can upload a background image to their profile page as well as change all the common colours displayed on the profile page.

Forums
What better way of getting your users to interact than to have your own forums. Your users can create topics, post replies to other topics and discuss/chat as much as they want. You can also hire forum moderators to help keep your forums tidy.

Help/FAQ Section
To save all that time in replying to questions on how to do something on your website, the help section allows you to jot down all them frequently asked questions which can also be categorized for easy viewing.

Color codes the links, i.e. red = dead link, green = alive link, orange = unchecked.
Adds a message under the original post indicating number of dead links and time they were checked.
Moves the topic to the bin if the percentage of dead links has exceeded a certain value.
Adds a reply to the topic indicating the topic was binned.

Posting videos using TV.Elements is as simple as copying the embed code from the source site and pasting it into a field. As you can see from my demo, I have tested this theme with videos from several sources including Blip.TV, Flickr, MetaCafe, MySpace, Veoh, Viddler, Vimeo and YouTube. But I can pretty much guarantee that any embeddable video should work with the TV.Elements theme. You can also embed your own hosted FLV files (please see included usage instructions).
Separating the Blog From the Video

On major feature that was missing from my previous video theme’s was the ability to write and maintain a standard (non video) blog along side the video functionality. The “TV.Elements” theme integrates video and standard blogging in one single package. Simply choose and create a category you wish to use for your blog and you are good to go.
Two Unique Color Styles

The TV.Elements package includes dark and light color schemes in one package. Simply choose the style you wish to use from the design menu and you are good to go.
Other Features

The TV.Elements theme has a total of 4 unique sidebars, all of which can be configured separately using the standard WordPress widget interface. Social links for each video are automatically populated and made available by clicking the “share” button beside each video. An embed code field is automatically populated which allows your users to copy and embed videos on their sites by click the “embed” button beside each video.
Installation and Usage

Upon purchase and download, you will most likely will want some direction on how to install and use the TV.Elements theme. Please refer to the “Setup and Usage” pdf document included with your theme package.
Requirements, Limitations and Unknowns

The TV.Elements theme has been tested on WordPress versions 2.3 through 2.6.1 ONLY. Any limitations or problems with using this theme on anything below 2.3 are unknown and unsupported. The TV.Elements theme has been tested and is fully compatible with the more popular web browsers including FireFox, IE 7/8, Safari and Google Chrome. Any limitations or problems caused by other browsers are unknown and unsupported. Please leave credit where credit is due. In other words, DO NOT remove the Press75.com reference found within the theme footer unless you have purchased the developer license. Please note that any 3rd party plugins you use, modifications or additions you make to the theme files that cause issues with TV.Elements are unsupported.

JA Highslide - Joomla popup and flyout content box


Highslide is a brilliant thumbnail viewer developed in javascript.
